Engaging Employees

MetLife’s Our Green Impact program empowers employees to reduce their environmental impact at work, at home and in their communities and take action to make their own green impact on society. The program provides both on-site and virtual environmental education opportunities, such as an online discussion forum, Green Tips of the Week, a newsletter and volunteer opportunities. We also offer an online quarterly speaker series, in which sustainability experts present on important issues, emerging trends and best practices.

MetLife’s Green Teams are Our Green Impact champions who promote environmental awareness and green business practices at their local offices. Currently, 16 teams, based in the United States, the Asia Pacific region and Latin America, volunteer to organize initiatives focused on energy conservation, waste and recycling, alternative commuting and more.

Throughout 2017, employees engaged in 1,000 hours of green service, including park and beach clean-ups, fish habitat builds, tree plantings and other partnerships with local organizations. For Earth Day 2017, more than 9,000 MetLife employees participated in celebrations at 25 offices globally.

Our Green Impact also participates in upcycling initiatives such as Terracycle and Blue Jeans Go Green to collect traditionally non-recyclable items and transform them into new goods. Each year, we recognize our Green Teams and those individuals who spearhead innovative projects to help achieve MetLife’s environmental goals. For example, employees are encouraged to nominate their colleagues for Our Green Impact awards, and the MetLife EcoChallenge — our global environmental competition — provides opportunities for prizes.
